The Bull is Back!

Dear Friends and Thinkers,

I apologize for the long absence from the website. As some of you may know, in late August, I moved from Taipei Taiwan, to Cambridge, MA, USA. Originally I had anticipated keeping up maintenance of the website during the transition, but the process of making an international move, house hunting, setting up a new home and getting to know a new city was all-consuming. Rather than spreading myself too thin, I let the website go.

After the long break, I contemplated not starting up the website again for a number of reasons. There are a certain number of hassles that come with running a website. First is the spam, both in my email box and on the website itself. It is a never-ending, exhausting process weeding through all of the spam, especially some of the most heinous, disgusting pornography spam. Second are technology issues - namely viruses and server usage. I am on my third host for Bull! Not bull, and starting out with a third kind of server software. My first hosting provider shut down the site because viruses had invaded the server, and this was apparently my fault. They told me I had to remove the viruses, or my site would be shut down. I had no idea where to begin, so down the site went. As my website built up momentum and popularity, the site was shut down repeatedly due to high traffic! Can you imagine such a thing? I couldn’t believe it, but this made me reluctant to make new postings. I was told that if I exceeded my server bandwidth one more time, the site would be shut down permanently. As a result, the site languished. When I finally checked in, the site had been overrun with disgusting comment spam, so I took the whole thing down.

As I said, I contemplated letting the site go, but in spite of the hassles, I miss it. I miss the writing and interacting with other like minded people, and having a platform for sharing and exchanging ideas. I’ve relocated to a new server, and I will begin the process of rebuilding the site on a new, less server-intensive platform, and hope to be back up and running in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your patience, and for all of your emails expressing your concern, encouragement and good wishes on my writing and my move. Keep your eyes peeled for the re-launch, coming soon.

Best regards,

M.A. Nystrom
